Dreaming of Tuscany
On a rainy day I spend more time on my computer and i found some photos of our May trip in Tuscany. It is only 6 hours drive from our home and so we often go there for a short trip (not as often as I wish). This time we were in Siena. It is soo great! The great medieval square Piazza del Campo is fabulous. Il Palio race around it must really spectacular. For scarcely 1 minute 10 horses from different town districts with bareback riders make 3 rounds around the square. The rule is only one: riders mustn´t tug at the reins of other horses. Even if the horse loose it rider, it can still win.

We also visited the small town San Gimignano. It is called medieval Manhattan, because of it`s 14 towers. Once there were 72 of them and they were symbols of power and wealth of medieval town.

And what makes Tuscany so great for me are green hills full of great plants and wonderful smells. I just love sage, thyme, rosemary, fig trees, olive trees... I always wanted to have them at home in my garden or house. But since our house is not exactly in Tuscany, this is a little difficult. Sage and thyme have no problems, they grow nicely on my garden and don´t mind our winters. Rosemary - I have to buy new plant every spring. It like our summer, but in winter it "dies" on the garden or in the house. Fig tree I have had in a pot for two years - outside in summer inside in the winter. some of my friends have them growing in the garden and they survived the winter fine. So I planted it this year in my garden too, because is too big for the pot. And the olive tree.. I bought one last summer, took it in in the winter.. And now we have a very decorative dry tree in the pot. The Lord of the Ring fans in our family call it the Tree in the Minas Tirith.
